Welcome to the world of open source CubeSat projects!
This website provides a platform for the free exchange of open source projects that are of use for CubeSat missions.
What are CubeSats?
The idea of CubeSats was first introduced around the year 2000 with the intention to ease the burden and complexity associated with satellite engineering. More specifically, a deployment system was developed that could be attached to a wide range of launch rockets, with the objective to carry three of those so-termed CubeSats inside during launch, and to subsequently release them into space. In order to make this work, the CubeSat Design Specification (http://cubesat.org/) was issued, which standardized to a certain extend the mechanical layout and properties of these CubeSats. In turn, anyone who would design their satellite to this specification would qualify to launch into space using this standard deployment container.
What is open source satellite engineering?
Open source means that those projects can be freely used, changed, and shared (in modified or unmodified form) by anyone. The motivation is to foster the advancement of CubeSat technology and to enable collaboration among developers.
